Inspired by Killmonger

I’ll never forget how awesome I felt after watching Black Panther for the first time.

I was so proud of the jaw-dropping display of black magic and immediately started thinking about pieces to help me immortalize the moment in a Junebug way.

The fabulous Michael B. Jordan played the bad guy. They named his character, Killmonger, and he was decorated with all these keloid marks representing the insane number of folks who had died at his hands.

So, while, I’ll admit that’s not the nicest inspiration, I was fascinated by the intricate detail of all his “kill marks.” They literally decorated his entire torso.

So, I sat down at my jewelry bench and started creating a piece in Killmonger’s honor.

To achieve the “kill marks,” I soldered tiny granules of Argentium Silver onto a plate of copper. I also fashioned a primitive blade symbol, and the circle inside it represents Killmonger all trapped inside his war-mongering ways.

The end result is this funky pendant necklace. Of course, this beauty is one of a kind. So, if you like it, you should grab it! I’m not sure how soon I’ll be inspired to solder all these individual granules on anything else. If you like this technique, this piece is for you.

Of course, like all my copper pieces, it has been sealed to preserve the finish and protect against skin reactions. Cleaning this beauty is a snap, as all it would need is a simple polishing cloth. You can check out my Copper Cleaning Guide for more info.

Inspired by Killmonger Copper Pendant Necklace

Inspired by the arrangement of "kill marks" proudly displayed by Erik Killmonger in the movie "Black Panther," this funky copper pendant necklace is beautifully textured by individually-applied Argentium Silver dots and shapes of solid Argentium Silver. It's one of those pieces that goes with everything! The pendant extends from copper chain with an antique patina finish. The 20-inch design closes with a lobster claps. With chain construction, you can easily adjust the length.
